The tearing of fabric could easily be heard throughout the house and would have likely still been audible to anyone outside with or without a supernatural ear. It was the snarl accompanying it however that brought the majority of the pack scrambling to the living room. In less than a second the room was filled with men and women looking for the source of the aggression and more than ready to fight it.
Thankfully one of the first in the room was Tablo, the Alpha and leader of the pack. He took one look at the newest addition to his pack that was currently viciously shredding what remained of a throw blanket and stepped forward. “Sungkyu, enough,” he commanded. The new wolf, not yet accustom to his new instincts, snarled at the direct order and lifted a golden eyes glare at their leader. It was a direct challenge that had every other wolf in the room on edge.
“Sungkyu,” Tablo growled sharply, “You will obey me.” The power behind the command sent half of the wolves in the room to their knees in submission. “Release the blanket,” Tablo commanded.
Immediately fabric fluttered from the fingers that had been shredding it. Tablo didn’t bother watching it fall as his eyes were still locked with the other’s. He didn’t say a word as the other wolf snarled at him, but he didn’t need to. Every werewolf in the room could feel the power of the Alpha fill the space. Those wolves that had remained standing sunk slowly to their knees one by one until only the Alpha’s second remained upright with the Alpha himself. Sungkyu’s decent had been much slower than the others, but he too slowly sunk until his knees were pressed against the hardwood. His eyes glared up in defiance for a moment longer, swirling a brilliant golden until they to lowered.
“Good,” Tablo praised and several of the wolves in the room began to breathe a bit easier. “Come here, Sungkyu.” Without the use of the name every werewolf in the room would likely have been scrambling over one another in an effort to obey.
Slowly the man shifted forward, crawling on all fours in a way that would have been humiliating for a man, but was more than understandable action for a werewolf to perform. When he arrived at Tablo’s side he pressed his head into the older man’s thigh in an effort to get as close as he could. Pleased by the obedience, Tablo’s hand fell into his hair. “Very good Sungkyu. Very good indeed.”
His fingers carded through the soft locks. A soothing motion that made the young werewolf sigh and sag against the man’s leg. It was relaxing, although a part of him grumbled in protest. That part was slowly getting softer by the moment until it had faded into silence all together and Sungkyu blinked. He was sitting on the floor at the feet of a man he barely knew, and he had no idea how he had gotten there.
“I-” he started and then clamped his mouth shut, suddenly unsure if he was allowed to speak or not. That thought was ridiculous, as one man couldn’t dictate what he did or didn’t do, he wasn’t a king after all, but something within him felt much differently on the subject.
“What happened little one?” Tablo asked, his voice carrying much more affection than Sungkyu felt appropriate for how little he knew the man.
Woohyun was nearby, he could almost feel the man, and sure enough a glance sideways showed the man sitting silently beside him. They shared a glance and Woohyun immediately looked down, breaking the direct eye contact. The gesture made desire flare hot in Sungkyu. He wanted to lunge across the room and pin his lover to the floor, to take his time making him submit beneath him. The intensity of the feelings terrified him and he turned his face into Tablo’s leg. Turning away seemed to help but it wasn’t nearly enough.
“Woohyun, leave the room.” He felt the command from Tablo sweep over him almost as if it were an actual compulsion brushing by, but it didn’t persuade him to do a thing. Still somehow he knew that Woohyun had obeyed and left the room only a moment later.
“It will become easier,” Tablo’s voice was soothing and Sungkyu sighed softly. “Don’t fear what you feel for your mate. Your Beast will not harm him, and Woohyun is one of my better fighters. He is fast and smart. With his experience you will do him no harm little one. Now tell me, in what way did the blanket offend you?” The question wasn’t a command, at least not one that demanded an answer from him, but he found that he longed to answer anyway.
“I don’t know,” he admitted. “I was sitting on the couch watching television and had it over my legs. I went to get up and it got tangled around my legs. I don’t know what happened after that.” The fact that he couldn’t remember terrified him.
“Think little one,” Tablo purred. “You can do it.”
Obediently Sungkyu searched his memories for the answer. “A part of me was scared and so angry,” he said slowly. “It wasn’t safe to be hindered like that. If we were attacked we would be slowed and unable to protect our mate like we should.” He pulled his head back so he could look up at the man above him, his eyes a warm brown once more. “That sounds so silly,” he whispered.
“Silly to a human,” Tablo agreed. “But you are no longer human.” The man met his eyes and Sungkyu immediately looked away unable to keep the contact for some reason. “You have new instincts Sungkyu. You are a werewolf now and one of those new things is a Beast within you. He provides you will all the instincts that we need to survive. Without him you are not a werewolf, without him you are not alive.”
Sungkyu inhaled sharply at that thought. There was something inside him, he could feel it. It wasn’t simply just a part of him, it was alive and conscious with thoughts of its own and it wasn’t pleased. He felt more than a little crazy at the discovery of it, but the Beast within him didn’t particularly care what he thought. “I can feel it,” Sungkyu whispered.
“Good,” Tablo replied. “With time you will learn how to live with it, how to control it.”
The Beast within him rebelled at the idea of being controlled and Sungkyu had to agree with him. He had only just met the thing that now lived within his mind and yet he felt it wasn’t something to bend to his will. There was something wild and beautiful about the thing within him, not to mention a bit dangerous. “I don’t want to control it, or at least I don’t want to force it to do what I want all the time,” he said, trying to clarify what he was thinking.
“Very good,” he could hear the smile in Tablo’s voice. “A werewolf that suppresses and controls his Beast, bending it to his will is a dangerous wolf. You two will learn to agree to disagree, and you will learn to overpower it when you have need of it. Until you can do that, I will be here to do it for you.”
He didn’t understand how the man could reach inside him and take control of him, but the Beast within him provided him with a bit of information, more pictures than words, but enough to get the point across. Alpha was Tablo’s role, that he knew since he had been told about it, but now it meant something entirely new. He knew now that Woohyun hadn’t obeyed his Alpha just because he was honor bond or wanted to, he simply couldn’t resist it.
“I think I understand,” he murmured.
“Good,” Tablo told him and then took a step back from him. It was as if some spell that had been holding him still and peaceful had suddenly broken. Slowly he blinked and rose to his feet, the Alpha’s commanding hold on him gone.
“Do I have to stay by you until I get a hold of this?” Sungkyu asked being careful not to look the man directly in the eye.
Tablo smiled. “No, I can feel you as one of mine all the time. I’ll be able to step in even if I’m not by you. Don’t worry so much Sungkyu, your Beast is not something to fear. Now that it has found its place, there shouldn’t be too many more problems right away.”
“Oh okay,” Sungkyu said lamely.
Tablo nodded and turned back to the kitchen where he had come from. At his leaving the others around the room began to move and disperse as well until Sungkyu was standing in the living room with only a few people remaining.
A small snicker drew his attention to Sungyeol who was still sitting on the floor. “I can’t believe you killed the blanket for it having dared wrap itself around you,” he cried before bursting into a full blown set of giggles.
Sungkyu felt his face flushing from embarrassment, but he could hardly find it in him to get angry at the other young man. Instead he bent down and began to pick up the tattered remains of the blanket. Perhaps he would find his dignity while he was down there as well.
AN: I decided that I needed to slow it down and touch on some basics for anyone who might be new to this universe. Those of you that are familiar with it know all about Beasts and the great variety they come in. Sungkyu's isn't exactly as viscous as some but it does have its little quirks (apparently one of which is a dislike of blankets). For anyone who may not have picked up on it yet, these are not written in any chronological order and will likely continue to not be. So just keep that in mind as you are reading. ^_^
